Russia has written off over 90% of Iraq's foreign debt as part of the Paris Club
Russia has written off over 90% of Iraq's foreign debt as part of the Paris Club, President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following the Russia-EU summit. According to him, an agreement on the Iraqi Prime Minister's visit to Russia was achieved on the phone yesterday. The whole range of issues will be discussed at the talks, Mr. Putin noted. "Russia backs the idea to hold elections in Iraq, however, it is necessary to create conditions for objective voting in order to let Iraqi people truly become masters of their land and natural riches and rule their country in the political sphere," the President said. The situation in Iraq remains complicated, he noted. "We regret that the number of victims keeps growing in Iraq," Vladimir Putin said. In his words, Russia has traditional friendly relations with Iraq and its people and intends to preserve them in the future
