Viktor Yushchenko refused to meet with incumbent President Leonid Kuchma
Ukraine's self-proclaimed 'president' Viktor Yushchenko refused to meet with incumbent President Leonid Kuchma. Therefore, further talks with Viktor Yanukovich whom the Central Election Commission proclaimed the winner of the presidential elections and Viktor Yushchenko will be carried out by Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Mr. Kuchma told the Inter TV channel. He called on Ukrainians to remain calm. Some media reported earlier that Leonid Kuchma planned to hold a separate meeting with Viktor Yushchenko. President's press secretary Alena Gronitskaya said that a common meeting between President Kuchma, Mr. Yushchenko and international intermediaries would be held on Friday night. Thos participating will be Lithuanian and Polish Presidents Valdas Adamkus and Aleksander Kwasniewski, EU High Commissioner for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana and Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Jan Kubis. Ms. Gromnitskaya did not mention Viktor Yanukovich among the participants in the meeting
