Sergei Ivanov favours General Staff reforming
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov favours strengthening the role of the Armed Forces General Staff and its reforming. The present situation requires comprehensive consolidation of the General Staff's role, but it should be strengthened first of all by much clearer defining functions and tasks for the top military governing structures, the minister noted at the meeting of the Academy of Military Sciences in Moscow on Saturday. It is clear that first of all such structures need substantial strengthening as the General Staff's main operational department, main organisational and mobilisation department and main intelligence department. Only by boosting the work of the intellectual constituent parts to a qualitatively new level, the General Staff can be the army brain, the minister noted.
