On Tuesday Yevgeny Primakov will appear at the trial of Slobodan Milosevic at the International Criminal Tribunal
On Tuesday Yevgeny Primakov, chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will appear at the trial of Slobodan Milosevic at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia as a witness for the defense. The ICTY judges consider him an important witness as during the Kosovo crisis of 1998-1999, when NATO bombed Yugoslavia, he was Russian Prime Minister. The tribunal's representatives suggested to Milosevic that Primakov should speak for at least two days. The Yugoslavian ex president said that he was very busy and could speak only on November 30th. Primakov arrived in the Hague on Monday and met Milosevic in the UN prison to discuss his future speech and the questions the former Yugoslavian leader would ask him. Primakov is a well-known oriental scientist, politician and statesman. He headed the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the Foreign Ministry and the Russian Cabinet. In March 1999 on the way to the USA he ordered the plane to turn back above the Atlantic to protest against NATO bombings of Serbia and Montenegro. Last week other Russian witnesses appeared at the trial. They were member of the Federation Council Nikolai Ryzhkov and vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems General Leonid Ivashov
