Prosecutor demands 1.5 years of custody for Shakhnovsky
The prosecutor demanded 1.5 years of custody in a convict settlement for former Yukos-Moscow head Vasily Shakhnovsky at Friday hearings of the Meshchansky Court of Moscow. Shakhnovsky is charged with tax dodging and forgery of documents, court sources told Itar-Tass. Prosecutors say that Shakhnovsky misinformed tax collectors about sources of his revenues in 1998-2000 and inflicted more than 50 million ruble damage on the country. The investigation was over on October 31, 2003. Shakhnovsky had paid the debt to the Pension Fund totaling 53.366 million rubles before the court hearings began, and the second tax department dropped the civil lawsuit. Yet criminal proceedings were not stopped, because the businessman did not help to solve the crime, the public prosecutor said.
