A steel plant based in Russia's Urals plans is seeking
A steel plant based in Russia's Urals plans is seeking a $85 million loan from Gazprombank, the financial arm of Russia's energy giant Gazprom, a business daily said on Thursday.

The Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of Russia's metals giant Mechel Group, said it would put up a 25% plus 1 stake as collateral for the loan through to October 1, 2009, Kommersant said.

Dmitry Smolin, a steel analyst at Uralsib Capital, said the steel plant was trying to cushion itself from the effects of the financial global crisis expected to peak in the spring.

Mechel is one of the Russia's leading companies, uniting producers of coal, iron ore concentrate, nickel, steel, rolled products, hardware, heat and electric power. The company sells its product both on domestic and international markets.
