Valery Shantsev believes that all cities seeking to host 2012-Olympics have equal chances
Moscow Vice Mayor, Chairman of the application committee Moscow-2012 Valery Shantsev believes that all cities seeking to host 2012-Olympics have equal chances. This was disclosed by him at the press-conference in RIA Novosti. According to Mr. Shantsev, last weekend the delegation of the application committee participated in the general assembly of European Olympic committees held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Within the frames of the assembly, all cities seeking to host the Olympic Games held presentations of their programs for the Games. Moreover, a session with President of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge was also held in Dubrovnik. According to the Vice Mayor, Moscow received no claims regarding the observance of rules to host the Olympic Games. "It seems that other cities asked to simplify the rules," Mr. Shantsev noted having added that the request was denied. He also added that each city had ten minutes of time for the presentation of their programs. The applications of New York, Paris and Madrid were presented by the Mayors of the cities, while the applications of Moscow and London were presented by representatives of the application committees. Mr. Shantsev believes that Moscow had a successful presentation. "We were once again convinced that Moscow is the only city offering to hold the Games within the city bounds," the Vice Mayor said having added that other cities had concepts of holding certain events 400 km away from the city limits. Moreover, in comparison with Moscow none of the candidate cities promised the readiness of the sports facilities before the beginning of the Games. The Chairman of the Moscow application committee said that in February 2005 the IOC President would pay a visit to Moscow, however, the visit would be in no way connected with the Moscow's candidacy for the Games. Mr. Shantsev also noted that according to conducted surveys 89% of Russians support the idea of holding the 2012-Olympics in Moscow.
