A 14-year-old boy was killed on Monday by an avalanche while
A 14-year-old boy was killed on Monday by an avalanche while snowboarding near Russia's Far Eastern city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, local rescuers said.

Rescuers said a group of four teenagers ventured off piste on Mount Sopka Mishennaya when they were caught in the avalanche.

The body of the victim, who was trapped under the snow, was found early on Monday. The teenager is believed to have died of various fractures and suffocation. Three other teenagers were unhurt in the accident.

A spokesman for the local Emergency Situations Ministry said the teenagers had started the avalanche as they snowboarded down an unprepared part of the slope. "They cut the snow cap causing the avalanche," he said.
