The girl, who has not been named, is currently in a relationship with Dalibor Marinkovic, 24, in a village near the town of Doboj, in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The age of consent in Bosnia is 14 years.

The girl's 30-year-old mother complained to police about the relationship but later retracted the complaint after her daughter along with Marinkovic left home and hid in the forest.

Although a criminal case has been opened officers said they have insufficient evidence to arrest Marinkovic.

The world's youngest mother is believed to be Lina Medina, from Peru, who is reported to have given birth in 1939 at the age of five.
