Alexei Kudrin and Gordon Brown intend to discuss the G8 and the repayment of Russian debts
In London, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin and his British counterpart, Gordon Brown, intend to discuss the G8 and the repayment of Russian debts. The two officials will meet on Friday during Mr. Kudrin's official visit to Britain. "We are interested in Britain as the country that we will receive the baton from in the G8," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti before his talks with Mr. Brown, "we will discuss these issues." He said Russia would be involved in preparations for Britain's presidency of the G8 to gain experience for Russia's G8 presidency in 2006. "Also during the meeting with Gordon Brown," he said, "we will discuss the repayment of Russia's Paris Club debt to Britain." According to official information, Russia's debt is currently $1.3 billion. Commenting on the schedule of Russian-British contacts at the G8 finance minister level, Mr. Kudrin said the heads of the finance departments of Russia, Britain and other G8 countries would meet in early February and June 2005 in London. He said G8 finance ministers would meet in April 2005 during the spring session of the International Monetary Fund in Washington. According to Mr. Kudrin, the priorities of Britain's G8 presidency, Africa and climate change would be discussed at these meetings
