Ukraine is likely to submit an application to the International Monetary
Ukraine is likely to submit an application to the International Monetary Fund for the second installment of a $16.43 billion loan on March 3, the acting head of the National Bank said Friday.

The country's prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, proposed that Ukrainian authorities write a letter confirming Kiev's willingness to continue cooperation with the IMF.

"The letter is likely to be written and sent on Tuesday," Anatoliy Shapovalov said.

The second installment of around $2 billion has been delayed over the inability by Ukraine's government to prove to the IMF that the country is capable of reducing its budget deficit currently standing at 3%.

Ukraine received $4.5 billion as the first installment of the IMF loan in November 2008.
