The parade dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War will consist of three parts
The parade dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany (May 9, 2005) will consist of three parts, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a cabinet session on Thursday. According to him, the scenario of the military parade on Red Square has been approved by the State Council and the organizing committee. "Proceeding from the previous experience, the physical load on WWII veterans will be reduced," Mr. Ivanov said. The parade will consist of three main parts: the celebration in honor of WWII veterans, the parade of the troops and aviation (historical and modern) and the "waltz of victors" with veterans participating. Over 50 foreign leaders are expected to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, Sergei Ivanov said. In his words, memorial obelisks dedicated to the WWII fronts and fleets, guerrillas and other defenders of the Fatherland will be unveiled on the Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow by the Victory Day. The Poklonnaya Hill is the greatest monument to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Its opening ceremony took place on May 9, 1995.
