Thai rescuers have recovered the body of a woman, believed to have been aboard a boat which sank Sunday night off Thailand's Phuket Island, local media said on Tuesday.

The Choke Somboon 19 tourist boat, carrying some 30 Thai nationals and foreigners from the Similian Islands to Phuket's Patong beach, capsized in the Andaman Sea. Twenty three people were rescued shortly after the incident, but seven people are still missing feared drowned.

"A navy vessel has been dispatched to the scene to retrieve the body for identification," the Thai News Agency (TNA) said.

Japanese, Swiss, German and Austrian tourists are among the missing, as well as one Thai crew member, the Phuket Gazette said.

The rescue operation is continuing.
