An EU delegation is due to visit Chisinau on a fact-finding
An EU delegation is due to visit Chisinau on a fact-finding mission following recent riots in the country, the Moldovan president's press service said on Saturday.

The agreement was reached during a phone conversation between the Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana.

The move comes after thousands of people took to the streets earlier in the week in protest at the results of recent parliamentary elections, which saw the ruling Communist Party win almost 50% of the vote.

Voronin has called for a recount of the votes after opposition parties claimed the results were "rigged."

The president said a recount was the only way out of the current political deadlock in the country and would restore stability and trust in the work of the newly elected parliament.

The Constitutional Court is due to consider the issue on Sunday.
