A Chinese court has sentenced a police officer with the death
A Chinese court has sentenced a police officer with the death penalty for shooting a man following a minor traffic accident, The China Daily reported on Tuesday.

The murder occurred on February 13, when Ji Zhongchun, 42, a police officer at the Public Security Bureau in Mengzi County, reversed his car into another vehicle while off duty.

Ji, who was also drunk, and Pan Jun, 40, an employee at a local electric power company started arguing over the damage. The police officer then shot Pan, killing him.

Ji was also ordered to pay 100,000 yuan ($14,700) in compensation to Pan's relatives.

With at least 1,718 executions in 2008, China executed more people than any other country last year, according to Amnesty International. Iran was second with 346 executions, followed by Saudi Arabia with at least 102 and the U.S. executed 37 people.
