A teenager charged with the murder of an 86-year-old pensioner
A teenager charged with the murder of an 86-year-old pensioner in East Siberia has told police he broke into the woman's house to get the money to pay off an earlier fine for theft.

Local media in the Trans-Baikal Territory's Nerchinsko-Zavodski Region said that 19-year-old Andrei D. broke into the WWII veteran's house late on April 20.

The teenager, who had been drinking heavily, stabbed the women and stole 45,000 rubles ($1,350) as well as medals and other WWII awards before burning down the house.

He had earlier been found guilty on theft charges and sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence and a 58,000 ruble fine.

The accused told police that he decided to rob the woman after being visited by court bailiffs in connection with his non-payment of the fine.
