The Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) said on Thursday its net profit under International Financial Reporting Standards decreased 17% year-on-year in 2008 to $1.08 billion.

MMK, one of the largest enterprises in Russia's steel industry accounting for about 20% of all steel products sold on the domestic market, said its revenue in the reporting period rose 29% to $10.55 billion, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) dropped 8% to $2.2 billion.

"Full-year 2008 figures were affected by Q4 2008 results, and include a number of nonrecurring non-cash operations to a total amount of $617 million," MMK said.

MMK is a major fully integrated steel-making complex performing the complete production cycle from preparation of iron ore materials to high added value processing of steel.
