Tsunami warning system
Russia can advance its own version of a tsunami warning system, Yury Brazhnikov, the director of the emergencies ministry's international activities department, told reporters on Monday. "A Russian delegation to be led by Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu will take part in the world conference on disaster reduction that will open in Japan's Koba on January 18. We intend to exchange opinions on such a system," said Mr. Brazhnikov. Mr. Brazhnikov said Russia and other countries, among them China and Japan, had some experience in that sphere. "The conference is to adopt a decision on the timeframe for developing a tsunami warning system in Southeast Asia and on resources to be used in the effort," said Mr. Brazhnikov. Mr. Brazhnikov emphasised that that expertise was also of great interest for the Caribbean region, Russia's Far East and the entire Pacific region.
