Russia will increase gas supplies to Turkey
Russia will increase gas supplies to Turkey and build distribution networks there, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Turkish businessmen in Moscow on Tuesday. "In the energy sphere, we have agreed on increasing Russian gas supplies, on Russian companies' participation in gas distribution in Turkey, and on constructing gas reservoirs," Putin said. In his words, the point at issue during the talks with the Turkish prime minister was also the supplies of energy resources to third countries via Turkey. The sides also discussed the implementation of gas liquefaction projects. "This will increase export capacity of the Russian power industry and create an absolutely new image of Turkey in international energy cooperation," Putin said. During meetings with the Turkish leaders, cooperation in electric power engineering and railway, ferry and air communication between the two countries were discussed. Turkish businessmen favored granting Turkish airlines the right to carry Russian tourists to Turkey and back. In reply, Putin explained that limitations on transportation covered only charter flights and concerned not only Turkey but also other partners of Russia. At the same time, he noted that there were no limitations on the transportation of Russian tourists by regular fights and called on the Turkish side to use these opportunities more actively. In particular, Putin noted that at present Turkish airlines did not make fights to St. Petersburg.
