Gerhard Schroeder has spoken out for the development of cooperation between European countries and Russia in the aerospace sphere
Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Gerhard Schroeder has spoken out for the development of cooperation between European countries and Russia in the aerospace sphere. Speaking at the presentation of a new airliner, A-380, in Blagnac, the suburbs of Toulouse, the official pointed out that the product of the European AIRBUS concern is the result of an extensive international cooperation. The liner houses 555 passengers and there are bedrooms for first-class passengers, bars, shops, casinos and fountains on board. At the same time, Shroeder noted that the potential of such cooperation within the framework of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), AIRBUS' main shareholder, has not been exhausted. "The EADS ship is not full yet, there is plenty of room for new partners, first of all Russia," the Chancellor of Germany said. He added that he promotes Russia's participation in new EADS projects, because it has great opportunities in the aerospace industry. Shroeder may have meant Russia's potential partaking in designing the A-350 aircraft, sources in the plane-making sphere commented on the Chancellor's speech. In an interview with RIA Novosti EADS' press secretary admitted the possibility of other joint projects, for example the Be-200 amphibious aircraft. "EADS intends to acquire 5-10% of the stake in the Russian Irkut enterprise, which produces the Be-200. It is quite possible that a joint venture to facilitate the promotion of this promising aircraft to the world market will be established," he said. Although the Be-200 aircraft is scarcely represented on the market, Europe and other countries take immense interest in this Russian plane, the press secretary underlined.
