Michel Barnier will arrive in Russia on a working visit on January 20-21
French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier will arrive in Moscow on a working visit on January 20-21, announced Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko. "On January 20, Michel Barnier will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and on January 21, the French foreign minister together with French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie will participate in the fourth meeting of the Russian-French Cooperation Council on security issues," Mr. Yakovenko stated. He said that during the upcoming meeting of the council, "the sides will continue open and trusting dialogue on the core international issues that represent mutual interest in various areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation." The foreign ministry spokesman added, "the sides plan to focus on the current state and prospects of Russian-French cooperation on key international and European problems, including the reform of UN institutions, creation of new European security architecture after the expansion of the European Union and the issues concerning the fight against international terrorism and settlement of regional crises."
