World champion Vladimir Kramnik scored his first victory at the representative chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. The Russian Grandmaster, playing for White, defeated Ivan Sokolov of Bosnia. The chess players who played for Black in the fourth round suffered two more defeats. Bulgarian Veselin Topalov who was the leader after the third round lost to Michael Adams of England, while Russian Alexander Morozevich lost to another British Grandmaster - most experienced Nigel Short. The other games ended in a draw. Mr. Adams and Peter Leko of Hungary are the leaders after four rounds with three points. Mr. Kramnik has one point less and is tied for 7th-10th places. Mr. Morozevich who has played extremely unsuccessfully so far - a draw and three defeats - is in the last place.
