A monument to Joseph Stalin will soon be erected on Poklonnaya Gora
A monument to the Soviet ruler Joseph Stalin will soon be erected on Poklonnaya Gora, in western Moscow, MP Oleg Tolkachev announced in an interview with the local Ekho Moskvy radio station. This monument will be part of a sculptural group, to include Stalin's British and American opposite numbers, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt. The three men came together for the historic Yalta conference in February 1945 to decide the fate of post-war Europe. As Mr. Tolkachev emphasized, the memorial is intended "not as a monument to tyranny, but to the leaders of the three powers that defeated Nazis." Its unveiling is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Allies' victory over the Nazi Germany, to be celebrated in May this year.
