Russian and French discussed the possibility of holding joint military
The Russian and French defense ministers discussed the possibility of holding joint military exercises of the air forces, navies and land forces. "Today, we discussed the possibility of holding various events not only along the line of the navies but also the possibility of holding the exercises of the air forces and land forces," French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie told a press conference in St. Petersburg. In her words, Russia and France held 24 joint events last year. Such events, including exercises, were actively held in 2004, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov noted for his part. In particular, he noted the Russian-French naval exercise involving the forces and means of Russia's Northern Fleet and a nuclear submarine. "Russian-French relations have been developing positively and constrictively of late," Mr. Ivanov said at the end of the talks.
