Moscow State University celebrates 250 years
Moscow State University (MGU), named after famed Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov is maintaining it's status as one of the most famous institutes of higher education in the country, according to the latest pole of Russians. The pole, taken by the leading fund "Public Opinion," on the anniversary the 250-th anniversary of the oldest university in the nation, 42 percent of Russians and an overwhelming 76 percent of Muscovites, named the most famous university in the country as the first in line in higher education in the country. The results of the pole showed that almost all adult Russians have some sort of conception of what MGU is and only nine percent of those poled said they had never heard of the university. The education the graduates received at MGU corresponds to world standards, 39 percent said, while 11 percent believe an education at MGU exceeds those standards. The majority of those poled, 77 percent, think that a higher education is very important in today's Russia. The prestige and quality of education and the international level of preparation received by graduates of MGU better help them to succeed in life than many other universities could. The pole was based on 1500 respondents' answers and was conducted Jan. 15-16 in 44 of the country's regions.
