Russia's Audit Chamber is going to overhaul its work dramatically in 2005
Russia's Audit Chamber is going to overhaul its work dramatically in 2005, Sergei Stepashin, the head of the Audit Chamber, told Vladimir Putin. "We are going to take up such practice as efficiency audit," he said. "We will check how efficient budget investments in various projects are in terms of both targeted use and misuse of funds, and in terms of the expediency of these investments [in the project]," the head of the Audit Chamber said. "We will make the conclusion on the 2006 budget in the same perspective," said Mr. Stepashin. "[The Audit Chamber] employs a thousand people across the country, therefore it is hard to control all the offices. There is, though, the control and revision department of the Finance Ministry, and respective bodies in the presidential administration," said Mr. Stepashin. The Russian president congratulated Mr. Stepashin and all the employees of the Audit Chamber on the tenth anniversary of this agency and wished them success.
