Viktor Yushchenko called off his Brussels visit because of bad weather conditions in Krakow
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko called off his Brussels visit because of bad weather conditions in Krakow, RIA Novosti was told at the Ukrainian mission to the European Union Thursday. Mr. Yushchenko was to have arrived in Brussels, subsequently delivering a speech at the European Parliament's headquarters and discussing prospects for expanded Ukrainian-EU relations with European Parliament President Josep Borrell. The European Parliament held its first plenary session this year in Strasbourg, with an overwhelming majority of its members supporting Ukraine's possible admission into the organization. President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso told a Brussels news conference that the EU was not studying the possibility of admitting new member countries (except those countries being covered by the appropriate political decisions of EU leaders) at this stage. We have recently approved a rather ambitious good-neighborliness policy with regard to Ukraine, Mr. Barroso noted, promising to support Ukraine, if it implemented political and economic reforms.
