Two sailors from the Russian Kafor trawler that is sinking in the Sea of Japan have been rescued on Monday
Two sailors from the Russian Kafor trawler that is sinking in the Sea of Japan have been rescued on Monday. The survivors were taken on board a helicopter, reports the Maritime Territory's civil defense and emergencies department. Aerial surveillance is going on in the distress area. Two Emergencies Ministry helicopters and An-26 plane are conducting the search operation. They have spotted four rubber rafts. The Primorye coast guard vessel has approached the scene. High waves and poor visibility have compounded the search effort. The Lazurit rescue towboat is heading for the scene from Vladivostok. The Vladivostok-based rescue and coordination center received SOS signals from the Kafor at 12 local time on Monday. The trawler that is registered with the Holmsk port in southern Sakhalin was approximately 30 kilometers off the shore at the time. There were 19 crewmen on its board.
