The Jack of Diamonds exhibition opens in the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val street on February 1, 2005
The Jack of Diamonds exhibition opens in the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val street on February 1, 2005. Over 120 showpieces from the depositories of Russia's largest museums, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Pushkin State Fine Arts Museum, 15 regional museums and private collections make a unique exposition presenting works by the members of the famous artistic associations of the early 20th century, reports the web site www.museum.ru. It was Mikhail Larionov who gave the exhibition its title ('Jack of diamonds' means 'swindler' in French). Common dislike of conservative traditions of the Russian paintings united members of this association. It was one of the early trends of Russian avant-garde. This exhibition ends the project launched in Monaco in 2004 and continued in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. According to critics, it was the highlight of the season. The key task of the exhibition in Monaco was to present the works of the Jack of Diamonds artists in the West and to integrate them in the European context. The Russian Museum exposition Jack of Diamonds in Russian Avant-Garde restoring the exhibitions of the association presented the history of the association's development and outlined its place in the Russian painting of the early 20th century. The exhibition in the Tretyakov Gallery presents the third version of the project. The association members created beautiful, temperamental, rich in color and structure paintings. The Jack of Diamonds key figures are Pyotr Konchalovsky, Ilya Mashkov and Aristarkh Lentulov. The exhibition features their works of the early 1910s. Works by famous French painters Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Derain and van Dongen will supplement the exhibition. The exhibition will be running until April 3.
