Russian rescuers and doctors are continuing their assistance to tsunami victims in Southeast Asian countries
Russian rescuers and doctors are continuing their assistance to tsunami victims in Southeast Asian countries. The Russian Emergencies Ministry's mobile hospital continues its work in Tangalla (250 km south of Colombo, Sri Lanka), RIA Novosti learned Tuesday at the Zashchita (Protection) all-Russia Disaster Medicine Center (VTsMK). "Since January 19, when the hospital was established, medical assistance has been given to 2,797 people, including 898 children," a center representative said. He added that the Emergencies Ministry's doctors performed 24 operations with the help of the VTsMK Zashchita medical team. The spokesman also said that after the tragedy, the Emergencies Ministry and the Defense Ministry's aircraft delivered 563.3 tons of relief cargo to the tsunami-affected areas. Another hospital established by the Russian Defense Ministry medically assisted 633 people. Its doctors operated on 30 tsunami victims.
