Alexander Zhukov has reported to Vladimir Putin that the government has considered amendments to the Law on Competition
Vice Premier Alexander Zhukov has reported to President Vladimir Putin that the government has considered amendments to the Law on Competition. "This is an important issue, since the existence of monopoly makes it impossible for entrepreneurship and business to develop, for monopolists may establish high prices that effect people's living standards," Mr. Zhukov said. The Vice Premier underscored that the law they discussed makes it possible to efficiently fight against monopolies by preventing them from establishing high prices. This measure will help protect small and medium business. "It is necessary to make the mechanism of executing the law efficient," Mr. Zhukov said. The Vice Premier agreed with the President. "There are a lot of laws, but they are not properly executed," Mr. Zhukov said. He added that he hopes the anti-trust service will be an efficient instrument in state hands. "It is I who hope, but you must tell me that you will ensure this," Mr. Putin retorted. "We shall do everything possible for the anti-trust service to work in the same way similar services work in the industrialised countries where they are efficient mechanisms that ensure economic development," Mr. Zhukov said.
