On Wednesday, the State Duma will raise the question of a vote of confidence in the government
On Wednesday, the State Duma will raise the question of a vote of confidence in the government, an initiative made by left-wing parliamentarians. Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov is expected to attend the session. "If he [Zurabov] resigned tomorrow he would save both the government and the State Duma," First Vice Speaker of the Lower House of the Russian parliament Lyubov Sliska said. "If he behaved honorably in this situation and resigned, the country would highly appreciate his action," Ms. Sliska said. If this happened, she said, benefit receivers would remember Health and Social Development Minister Zurabov as "an honorable man and not as a stubborn minister who would never resign." Answering reporters' questions, Ms. Sliska said that she did not know whether Mr. Zurabov intended to resign or not. She supposed that it would not be a simple situation for Mr. Fradkov. He "will have to answer for the mistakes" made by the Cabinet, she said. "They [mistakes] are obvious, and nobody intends to conceal them," she concluded.
