Russia and the European Union future prospects
Russia and the European Union will keep working on the gradual formation of a common European economic space," Russian Information and Mass Communications Minister Leonid Reiman said at the session of the Russian-Norwegian intergovernmental commission in Oslo. Mr. Reiman is a cochairman of this commission. According to him, the consolidation of economic links with all EU countries is a key task of Russia's foreign economic policy. "Pan-European integration is highly important for us," he stressed. In his words, the European Union is Russia's main source of technologies, know-how and investments. "Russian and EU economies are closely connected and complementary, therefore, we hope that both sides will gain by the promotion of economic integration," Leonid Reiman emphasized. Russia is striving for making its economy more open and effective to join the World Trade Organization, he noted. Much has been done to make the Russian legislation correspond with the WTO norms and regulations, he added. "This work has been almost accomplished and the negotiations on Russia's accession to the WTO are drawing to completion," the minister said.
