Romania's president Traian Basescu visit Russia for trade talks
According to Mikhail Fradkov, Russia's prime minister, the Russian government has ideas on how to improve trade relations with Romania. In opening his meeting with Romania's president Traian Basescu, Mr. Fradkov said as follows: "We have concrete ideas on how to improve the structure of Russian-Romanian trade and make the two countries' markets more attractive to each other." Mr. Fradkov stressed that "relations between our two counties develop at a stable pace. Last year, we achieved a good level of trade turnover, but this is not the limit, since we do not make use of the countries' full potentials." Mr. Fradkov mentioned a constructive Russian-Romanian dialogue that was made possible by the Treaty on Friendly Relations signed by the two countries in 2003. In the prime minister's opinion, the Treaty laid a good foundation for developing social-economic cooperation between the two countries. In turn, the Romanian president underlined the importance of the countries' cooperation in the zone of the Black Sea basin. In his words, this cooperation should promote peace and security in the region.
