24% of Russians have placed Anatoly Chubais in the first position among representatives of the Russian economic elite
This is the information circulated by Yuri Levada's independent analytical center (the Levada Center). Sociologists of the center have conducted a nationwide representative opinion survey of 1,600 Russians in 128 settlements of 46 regions of the country. The statistical error of the poll lies within 3%. The respondents were asked to name 5-6 people who should belong to the Russian economic elite. (The data is cited in percentage of the number of those who gave meaningful answers to this question; 49% of the polled found it difficult to answer). Mr. Chubais is followed by Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin (20%), Minister of Economic Development and Trade German Gref (19%), and Chukotka Governor Roman Abramovich (14%). Former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky, currently in jail for tax evasion and fraud, also received 14%, while Boris Berezovsky, another out-of-favor oligarch living in London, got 11%. They are followed by Minister of Health and Social Development Mikhail Zurabov (10%), Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov (9%), Yegor Gaidar, the director of the Institute of the Transitional Economy, (9%), and Grigory Yavlinsky, the leader of the Yabloko Party (8%)
