The Bolshoi Theater needs additional investments into the reconstruction
The Bolshoi Theater needs additional investments into the reconstruction of the main stage planned for 2005, theater's general director Anatoly Iksanov announced at the Tuesday session of the board of the Russian federal agency for culture and cinematography. According to him, the reconstruction costs about 1 billion rubles ($1=27.94 rubles). It is necessary to allocate extra 300 million rubles, Mr. Iksanov noted. "This year tends to be a difficult one, first of all, from the creative point of view," Mr. Iksanov told RIA Novosti. Two performances have already premiered, Giuseppe Verdi's opera Falstaff and Dmitry Shostakovich's ballet The Bolt. If there were only 3 premieres in 2001, today there are 6-7 premieres during the season, he stressed. The management of the Bolshoi Theater is also concerned about the introduction of the land and property tax. The size of these taxes depends on land prices, which are extremely high in downtown Moscow, where the Bolshoi Theater is situated, Anatoly Iksanov said.
