Mikhail Kasyanov does not rule out his participation in the 2008 presidential elections
Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov does not rule out his participation in the 2008 presidential elections. "Everything is possible. The most important thing is that the one who will be Russia's leader in 2008 will follow the democratic path," Mr. Kasyanov said answering journalists' question about his intention to run for presidency. According to the ex-premier, the key task of the president elected in 2008 will be the provision of people's rights outlined in the Russian Constitution. Mr. Kasyanov believes that Russia has deviated from democratic values and has taken a wrong path. "Social and business activities are not enough to change the vector of the country's development," he noted. "Many mistakes have been done. I will be working on the improvement of the situation in the country," Mikhail Kasyanov stressed. In his opinion, democratic values should be the basis of Russia's development. Russia claims its adherence to these values, in particular, the free judicial system, freedom of mass media, developed market economy, free entrepreneurship, protection of private property and political pluralism, Mr. Kasyanov recalled. He is convinced that it is necessary to form a united democratic party as soon as possible. "Democrats must be united today. This is the key question today which admits of no delay," the ex-premier said speaking about his party preferences. However, he did not give a direct answer to the question is he was ready to head such a political project. "This discussion is untimely because democrats have not been united yet," Mr. Kasyanov noted. In his words, his new company MK-Analitika will not be involved in lobbying. The company will present independent opinions on these or those issues, Mikhail Kasyanov said. The ex-premier is ready to give advice to governmental structures, regional and municipal authorities. "The country needs investments. The last year was good for the economy. However, the demand for investments is great," the ex-premier emphasized. Therefore, Mr. Kasyanov decided to set up the MK-Analitika company which will support Russian and foreign investments, promote their placement and reduce risks.
