Russia has established an Islamic Educational Council and elaborated unified Muslim religious educational standards
It said Radik Amirov, Russian Muftiyyate chief of PR. He addressed the media to sum up a conference of Muslim Board heads and theological school rectors, which had gathered in Moscow to work for two days. "The Islamic Educational Council will coordinate the work of religious educational establishments for clergy tuition and Islamic literature publication. It will also be active in elaborating religiological standards," said Mr. Amirov. The council will hold its maiden session, March 29, to approve its Rules and pass unified standards for higher theological education. Muslim religious leaders have also determined to establish an Islamic confessional bloc within national theological standards, he added. "Religious education is getting ever more important in this country. That is why the time has come to buttress theological research centers. Russia may make do with four or five, to base in major cities, provided they cope with controlling educational efforts in the provinces," Ravil Gainutdin, High Mufti of Russia, pointed out during the conference. The conference of Muslim scholars and religious leaders had guests of honor-Andrei Sebentsov, second in charge of a federal government commission for religious communities; Alexei Grishin, Kremlin staff adviser; and spokesmen of several federal ministries.
