The Moscow City Court approved the prolongation of the arrest of Yukos lawyer Svetlana Bakhmina
Thus, the court has dismissed the appeal by Ms. Bakhmina's attorney. According to the latter, Olga Kozyreva, she is going to file a supervisory protest with the presidium of the Moscow City Court. The court on Wednesday reviewed the feasibility of releasing Ms. Bakhmina. According to a court spokesperson, Ms. Kozyreva had filed the appeal against Moscow's Basmanny Court's decision with the higher court. Ms. Bakhmina was arrested on December 10, 2004 at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office. The Yukos lawyer is suspected of embezzling as part of a group the property of the Tomskneft company and Eastern Oil Company, worth a total of 8 billion rubles ($1=27.66 rubles). In addition, prosecutors accuse Yukos's attorney Dmitry Gololobov of embezzling Eastern Oil Company shares worth over 3 billion rubles. As was reported by a Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson, Mr. Gololobov was last summoned for interrogation on October 9, 2004 but failed to appear and went abroad instead. Mr. Gololobov has been put on the international wanted list.
