President Vladimir Putin has prolonged the regime of sanctions against Liberia
He has decreed On the Measures to Fulfil Resolution 1579 of the UN Security Council, dated December 21, 2004, the Kremlin press service reports. The president instructs all state institutions, industrial, trade, financial, transport and other enterprises, firms, banks, organizations, other legal persons and individuals under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation to proceed in their activities from the Liberia-related measures to be prolonged from December 22, 2004 until a special instruction. "Exceptions from these measures are only allowed by a permission of the UN Security Council Committee established in line with Resolution 1521 of the UN Security Council, dated December 22, 2003", reads the presidential decree. Since Liberia has not fulfilled the provisions for a peaceful settlement in that country, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1579 on December 21, 2004, which extends the sanctions regime fixed by its Resolution 1521 of December 22, 2003.
