The relatives of Aslan Maskhadov have officially identified his body
The relatives of Aslan Maskhadov, the leader of Chechen separatists, have officially identified his body, RIA Novosti learnt in the Chechen prosecutor's office. "The official identification of the body was attended by investigators of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office in the North Caucasus and forensic experts," said the spokesman for the prosecutor's office. He noted that three of Maskhadov's associates detained during a special operation in Tolstoi-Yurt also attended the identification procedure. According to the source, none of those present had any doubt that it was Maskhadov's body. After the identification, the relevant protocols were compiled. "To complete the identification procedure, the prosecutor's office has ordered criminalistic expert examination of the genetic material due soon," said the source. Aslan Maskhadov was killed by the Russian FSB commandos on March 8, 2005 in Tolstoy-Yurt of the Grozny district of Chechnya. The leader of Chechen separatists had been hiding in an underground shelter
