Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will not cancel his visit to Tallinn
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will not cancel his visit to Tallinn because of Estonian President Arnold Ruutel's refusal to participate in Victory Day celebrations on May 9 in Moscow, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko said in an interview with an Estonian TV program. "President Arnold Ruutel's refusal to arrive in Moscow on May 9 does not mean that Mr. Lavrov will cancel his visit to Estonia aimed to discuss bilateral and international issues," Mr. Yakovenko said. "Sergei Lavrov remembers the invitation of the Estonian side," he noted. A visit to Estonia is not on Mr. Lavrov's current schedule but it does not mean that this visit will not take place, the official spokesman continued. However, the Russian diplomat did not specify the terms of the visit. Alexander Yakovenko reaffirmed that the Estonian Foreign Minister would not be able to replace the Estonian President on May 9 in Moscow because "a personal invitation had been handed to Arnold Ruutel." On March 7 Estonian and Lithuanian Presidents Arnold Ruutel and Valdas Adamkus announced that they would not go to Moscow to participate in the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazism at Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation.
