The first issue of the practical-politics and political-studies monthly journal Politicheski Klass (Political Class) saw light last February. Its 128 glossy pages are expected to be the principal tribune for what is seen as political thinkers in present-day Russia. Many political magazines have appeared in the country of late. Political thought is moving from television to the printed media and aside from the academic mainstream, founders of journal say. But these editions often lack pluralism and the readership and authors' circles are very much the same. The journal will go beyond the limits of the Moscow community of experts, editor-in-chief, journalist and politologist Vitali Tretyakov notes. Ten years ago he founded one of Moscow's leading dailies, Nezavisimaya Gazeta. Lecture at the MGIMO institute Mr. Tretyakov, author of politology studies and anchorman of the TV program What's to Be Done? Philosophical Discussions, sees the journal's main goal in establishing a political-thought forum. "Not imported but domestic, Russian", the editor-in-chief stresses. "Priority goes to academic, basic, easily understood and nicely worded treatises on actually every topical problem in Russia and elsewhere", Mr. Tretyakov describes the direction and format of publications to be carried in the journal. Special attention will be given to analytical forecasts, "not diagnosing the present-day situation but looking into the future". The long-term goal the editors see in proposing to the nation, its political class and the authorities thoroughly prepared, critically assessed scenarios, plans and programs of action to be made to snatch Russia out of its historical crisis, which the country has been trying to overcome throughout the previous years. In the editors' idea, every issue of the Political Class will be received by all the leading intellectuals and politicians in Russia.
