The Russian Seasons in Paris have opened with Sergei Prokofiev's opera War and Peace
It premiered in the Opera Bastille theater on Monday night. According to the French media, the audience enjoyed the performance. Some years ago War and Peace enjoyed success in this theater. Today the opera is running with a different cast. Over 50 Russian opera stars are involved in the performance conducted by Vladimir Yurovsky. Eight more performances of War and Peace will be shown in the Opera Bastille by the end of March. Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov under the baton of chief conductor of the Bolshoi Theater Alexander Vedernikov will continue the Russian Seasons from late April till late May. A new version of Czech composer Leos Janacek's opera "From the House of the Dead" (after Fyodor Dostoyevsky's book "Memoirs from the House of the Dead") will be shown in the Opera Bastille Theater, as well. The Russian Seasons will close with Pyotr Tchaikovsky's opera Queen of Spades and the premiere of the performance The Noise of Time which Simon McBurney staged on the music of Dmitry Shostakovich's 15th quartet. After the summer holidays, the Russian Seasons in Paris will continue. Sergei Prokofiev's opera Love For Three Oranges will be shown in the French capital. In 2006 the company of the Mariinsky Theater headed by Valery Gergiyev will present Dmitry Shostakovich's opera The Nose. Mr. Gergiyev is often invited to the Opera Bastille theater to conduct various performances. The Garnier Opera House will host the Russian ballet seasons. Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet and Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake choreographed by legendary Rudolf Nuriyev will be shown in Paris
