Mikhail Fradkov reported that the introduction of common currency from January 1, 2006 remains under consideration
Following the government session of the Union of Russia and Belorussia, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov reported that the introduction of common currency from January 1, 2006 remains under consideration. "Moreover, the positions of the sides have become more distinct," he added. "With the matter to be discussed at a higher level, a general plan has been already approved and everything is being done to translate it into life," said Fradkov. "We have agreed upon a plan of action and within the next 10-15 days we shall see it in an accomplished form," confirmed Belorussian Prime Minister Sergey Sidorsky. Meanwhile, Russia and Belorussia are not at one on the establishment of a uniform emission center. "The Banks of Russia and Belorussia have got some concerted solutions and this matter remains at the government and central bank levels," continued Sidorsky. Mikhail Fradkov added that all ministers concerned were being involved in this effort. The Russian prime minister also reported that Russia and Belorussia were finishing all technicalities connected with the system of collecting taxes as regards the country of designation. He expressed confidence that troubles in this system were caused by technical imperfections and the states would soon enjoy the results of this tax collecting system-higher trade turnover. He cited today's trade turnover as a record figure for the past time--$17.5 billion. The Russian prime minister declared that Russia and Belorussia were consistent in resolving outstanding questions with mutual respect and understanding. The sides are seeking the establishment of a single economic and social environment. "We are taking care to be specific in our discussions," said Fradkov.
