The Meshchansky Court of Moscow has extended Mikhail Khodorkovsky's custody till July 14, 2005
At a court session on Thursday, the presiding judge, Irina Kolesnikova, extended the custody for another two months, without any petitions of the prosecutors or the defense. The custody was to expire on May 14, 2005, according to the previous court ruling. Kolesnikova explained her decision by the fact that Khodorkovsky is charged with grave crimes, and can flee jurisdiction and influence witnesses, if the measure of restraint is altered. Moreover, the judge said that the trial would not be over before May 14 anyway, considering the forthcoming judicial pleadings and the number of the participants in the proceedings.
