The first festival of amateur puppet theaters called "At the Story-Teller's Place" is to open today
This festival is timed to coincide with the 200-th birth anniversary of Danish story-teller Hans Christian Andersen. Our festival will involve nearly 120 amateur puppet theaters from all over Russia and other CIS countries, Marina Gribanova, art director of the "Magic Lamp" children-book theater, told RIA Novosti. The festival will take place at Gribanova's theater. We perceive this event as a festival, rather than a competition, because all children will become winners. Each of them will receive a diploma and a gift when the festival ends in the fall of 2005, Gribanova added. According to Gribanova, the children-book week, which is also devoted to the great Danish story-teller's birthday, is taking place during school holidays on the theater's initiative. The theater will show one of its best productions, namely, "Princess and the Pea" April 2, that is, on Andersen's birthday. This production was staged during several puppet festivals in Belgium, Italy, Hungary and Israel. Apart from the "Magic Lamp" theater, this festival is organized by Russia's Andersen foundation, as well as the Goodwill Without Borders international public movement
