The Ministry of Health and Social Development intends to reduce the cost of the medical treatment for AIDS patients by nearly 86%
Speaking in Moscow at the meeting devoted to the struggle against AIDS, Health Minister Mikhail Zurabov noted that in the past few years the price of the medical treatment of an AIDS patient during one year in Russia stood at more than $10,000. According to Mr. Zurabov, the department he heads held talks with a number of leading world pharmaceutical companies with a view to meeting Russia's requirement for medical preparations against AIDS at well-grounded prices. The Minister said that, as a result, by now the cost of the medical treatment has been reduced to $3,000. "We plan that the cost will further diminish to $1,400-$1,700," Mr. Zurabov said
