GAZ has completed work on the last 88 Volga cars for Iraq's order
Gorky Automobile Factory (GAZ) has completed work on the last 88 Volga cars for Iraq's 2001 order for 5,000 of the cars, Aleksei Barantsev, GAZ's general director, told journalists here Tuesday. He said the 88 cars were moving off the assembly line as he spoke. 'We have a chance at another big sale of autos for Iraq, but it's premature for me to be talking about it at this time,' he said. He added: 'We expect to get the money for the latest sale in April.' He also said the company expects to export a total of 53,000 cars in 2004, which comes to 22% of the plant's output. GAZ and Iraq's Trade Ministry signed a contract in 2001 for the delivery of 5,000 GAZ-3110 Volgas stipulating payment of euro 44 million.
