The Internet has a new project, Victors, for the 60th anniversary of Victory
It is a multimedia model of the Great Patriotic War and the list of surviving veterans, the daily Vremya Novostei reports. The project is the job of several individuals set to do what they can for the war veterans. The site will soon carry the names of 960,000 veterans. Its authors hope that each Russian veteran will find his name in the list and show it to his children and grandchildren. Lists of veterans now residing in countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States are also forthcoming and the army of victors will be reunited in virtual space. Another as significant part of this project is the multimedia model of the course of that war. In an hour and a half you can trace the hostilities from the rapid advance of the Nazi forces in the beginning to the Soviet Army's advance to Berlin. All the main facts, battles, rear movements and so on will be shown. On the special time scale one can select a date and see what happened on that day - aircraft and tank movements, front line changes. The information windows cite information on battles, number of military hardware. Reminiscences of war veterans, fragments of speeches by officials, films and stills will be reproduced. The project Victors is a high-tech innovation for even the global web. The model is unprecedented in the world, authors of the site say. The project will be finalized by May 9.
